First Time HP Printer Setup

Plug the printer into a power source to turn on the printer.

Connect the power cable to the printer.

Plug the other end of the power cable on an electrical outlet.

Press the Power button to turn on the printer

Install the ink cartridges

Install the HP ink cartridges in the box with your printer.

Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge.

Remove the plastic tape.

Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles.

Insert the ink cartridge into its slot, and then gently push the ink cartridge until it snaps into place.

Repeat these steps to install the other ink cartridge.

Close the ink cartridge access door, and then close the output tray.

Load plain, A4 paper in the input tray after you install the ink cartridges.

Slide the paper width guide all the way to the left.

Load a stack of plain white paper into the input tray.

Slide the paper width guide to the right until it rests at the edge of the paper.

Your HP printer hardware is now set up and you can install the printing software.

Download the latest version of the printing software from the following HP driver support website 123.hp.com

If your printer is connected with a wired (Ethernet) connection, check the cable and the lights on the printer’s Ethernet port. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.

If your printer is connected to a wireless connection, make sure the wireless feature is on, and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Make sure your printer is on and connected to your PC

Open Start > Settings> Devices > Printers & Scanners. Select the name of the printer, and then choose Remove device.
To reinstall the printer, select Add a printer or scanner and then select the name of the printer you want to add. If Windows doesn’t automatically find a new driver after the printer is added, look for one on the device manufacturer’s website and follow their installation instructions.


For print quality purposes, the printer prints an alignment page after five pages are printed. Follow the instructions on the alignment page to complete the ink cartridge alignment.
